I’ve been lucky over the last few years to teach a wide array of students who have been interested in a broad set of genres and techniques. I love giving students the space to reach a feeling of expanded creative possibilities, like when a 12 year old student surprised me with a genius way of combining elements from a Bach piece they learned on piano and EDM sounds, or another student’s delicately layered arrangement of an acoustic guitar driven song.

My Teaching Philosophy:

I believe that the most important thing is for the student to be passionate about the music, that way inspiration flows, and roadblocks become fun challenges to overcome. This passion for music doesn’t simply come from within, that’s why it’s so important to have fun making music and learning about music. To me the act of making a frog I recorded sound like a terrifying three ton beast and making music with it will always be fun. Whatever your version of fun is, whatever genre or style is your favorite, whatever software or gear you have access too, I’m excited to have fun making music with you.

Things I Can Teach You:

I teach both guitar and music production/ recording lessons. These can be taught together, or we can focus on one of them. I’m fluent with Logic, Pro Tools, and Ableton and can show you the ins and outs of any of those programs. I’m happy to teach students with other DAWs as well. I have quite a bit of experience recording and mixing music, so if you’re more interested in the technical side that’s great. We can also get deep into synthesis, sound warping, sampling, and other important production techniques for many genres of music, electronic and beyond. And if you’re interested in big ideas we can talk about arrangement concepts, musical aesthetics, and more.
